From Nation to République

Line 9
Sunday after the Charlie Hebdo and Jewish deli massacres
Never seen so many people
Waiting for the last trains
Only the bums don’t seem to care
Other than they can’t sleep
The crowd is quiet, polite
A bit worried, bombs
These people, all kinds of people
Lived an historic day
They know it and in their eyes
I can see they’re excited
I’m glad they were so numerous
And so diverse
I’m proud to be French
So why do I feel so sad
