The two of them crumbling
He’s in a better shape
Than she is so
He helps her along
All those stairs
The long platforms
Little step by little step
That must hurt
They’re not rich
They would have taken a cab
Yet they find money for the shows

Older, poor, spent

On her left hand
So she’s married
She’s obviously going
Home from work
Kids long gone
This late
Her husband
Had to cook dinner
For himself
Her eyes don’t say
That she’s thinking of him
Oblivious of drama
She’s picking her nose
